Looking To The Cross | Day 5 | Mark 10:45

Jesus set the perfect example of communal living for His followers by tirelessly serving.

He taught, healed, fed, washed, and prayed for the sinners around Him during His earthly ministry. The limitations of the human flesh never stopped Him from loving His neighbors perfectly so that we would follow His example by the power of the Spirit. He did not count equality with God as something to be grasped but took the form of a servant so that His Bride would be of the same mind (Phil. 2:6-7).

In our sinful nature, we seek for others to serve us, but Jesus, being fully God in human flesh and worthy of all honor and praise, laid aside His life to serve His people. His service for us extended all the way unto His death on the cross that paid the eternal cost for our sins and continues to this day as the Holy Spirit guides and intercedes for us. Jesus is still serving us from the throne of heaven, guarding us against the schemes of the enemy and leading us unto greater sanctification and ultimately, glorification when we go home to see Him in glory.

As we reflect on the cross and take up our own every morning, let us seek to serve rather than be served. Where can we replace our demands on others with gifts to them instead? Where do we need to humble ourselves and place more significance on the needs of our neighbors rather than our own? Let all of these things be part of our service of spiritual worship unto God the Father.
