Looking To The Cross | Day 36 | Hebrews 10:12-14

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and God saw that it was good. It was a world without enemy or conflict. God dwelt peacefully with His Creation in the garden He had created for them.

Unfortunately, this world would not stay peaceful for long, for an adversary would seek to become God, thus leading a spiritual rebellion and making himself an enemy of God. As part of his rebellion, this adversary targeted humanity, tempting them into sin by deceiving Adam and Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Because of this act of sinfulness, all of mankind had, too, become enemies of God. But Christ Jesus, the Son of God, offered himself on the cross as a single, one-time sacrifice for all sins, and He rose again proving His authority over sin and death. This sole offering sufficiently satisfied God’s requirement for holiness and extended salvation to His people through the forgiveness of sins and belief in the Gospel.

Whereas the Old Covenant was unable to provide atonement for sins, Jesus’ sacrifice perfectly provided eternal salvation to all those who are being sanctified through His work on the cross. This is the good news of the “Already, but Not Yet” reality of the believer. Jesus has already provided the atonement for salvation and His Church is secure in Him, but our world is still broken, sinful, and far from God.

We have not yet seen the completion of God’s redemptive plan come to its full fruition, but we do not live as those who have no hope. Jesus is coming again, and He will restore all of Creation and forever bind the work of the adversary. The enemies of God will forever be made a footstool for the feet of Jesus. The One, True King of the Universe will reign forever with us by His side. Praise Him for He is good, and His love endures forever!
