Looking To The Cross | Day 34 | Hebrews 9:11-14

Leviticus 16 paints a grim picture of life without the eternally atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

With these God-given instructions for animal sacrifices also came much sadness. Blood would be shed, and innocent life would be lost so that mankind could seek the forgiveness of sins and the removal of guilt.

Yet, these sacrifices were incomplete and grossly insufficient. No amount of animal blood would ever be able to secure the forgiveness of sins and restore a man back to righteous standing with God. That is, until Jesus, the ultimate high priest, made His offering of blood. His sacrifice on the cross was not that of a prized, first-born animal but of the undefiled, unblemished unique Son of God.

Through his death and resurrection, Jesus offered the ultimate sacrifice that ushered in a New Covenant making the old, Mosaic covenant obsolete while subsequently fulfilling the prophecy of Jeremiah 31:31-34.

Because of the power of the cross, Jesus Christ has once for all entered into the holy places, forgiven His elect of their sins, seated them with Him in Heavenly places, written His New Covenant on their hearts, and remembered their sins no more. To God be the glory! Amen.
