Looking To The Cross | Day 8 | Mark 15:33-39

Sometimes God says no. Sometimes He allows suffering. Betsy was a godly woman who lost her battle to cancer. Despite the medical struggles she faced and the pain that terrorized her body, Betsy’s faith was immovable. She knew God to be her refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).

Her unwavering faith inspired a community of believers, as she held strong to the very end. Though many prayed for Betsy to be healed of cancer, God’s answer was “no.”

As she said goodbye to all she loved here on earth, Betsy was comforted in knowing she worshiped a risen Savior who was familiar with suffering. She held tight to Jesus, and because she did her life boasted of God’s glory.

It can be very frustrating to be told no.

Like Jesus, we too can feel forsaken by God at times. Every trial you and I face is a trust-opportunity. Each obstacle we encounter comes with a choice. Will we choose to trust in the power and sovereignty of God, or will we choose to doubt? When we decide by faith to lean into the tensions of suffering in the strength and grace of Jesus, those around us are able to see divine glimpses of glory.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for providing grace that strengthens me when I’m weak. Your glory is my purpose.

In Jesus ’ name, Amen
