Looking To The Cross | Day 16 | Romans 5:6-8

“I can do it,” “Leave me alone,” and “I don’t need your help” are phrases that most of us master as little kids. We want to solve our own problems. We resist being perceived as weak.  Our quest for autonomy begins by dressing ourselves and morphs into driving and working independently.

It is easy to think that our goodness and hard work could earn salvation just like they did with good grades in school. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Paul writes that we were weak and powerless when Christ died for us.

Accepting Jesus as our Savior starts with admitting our weakness and sinful nature. We need Jesus to help us because we can’t get free from the death trap of sin on our own. He sacrificed his life to set us free from the snares of selfishness, short-sightedness, and all the other mistakes we make intentionally and unknowingly that lead to death.

Jesus took our place and died for us because we were weak and sinful. Like an infant caught in a burning building, our strength and ability would never be enough. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves. Often, we don’t even realize the grave danger we are in. But He knew we needed to be rescued. It is for sinners like you and me that Christ came.

Praise His holy name.
