Looking To The Cross | Day 13 | John 10:17-18

Jesus had a choice.

Fully God and fully man, He could have said, “No” to dying on the cross.

But He chose to sacrifice His life on His own free will. He chose obedience to the Father.

Obedience isn’t always easy. In fact, because we are born with free will, we rarely fall easily into a submissive posture. We want things done our way. But when we do choose to obey, it’s usually because of our deep love and trust for the person giving the command. As a parent, I realize when my children choose to obey me it is because they believe I am giving them rules and guidance for their own good. In teaching them to obey me, I am helping them to learn to obey God.

God is in charge.

We can wrestle with this and even fight against it, but He is and always will be in charge. Jesus chose to obey His Father because He loves us.

When we realize that submitting to God’s plan for our lives is what’s BEST for us, we can trust Him through the bad times, when things are hard and messy, when nothing makes sense. We can choose His way over ours and find peace. He is the ultimate authority.
